360 Screenings – A lot of tricks, all treat

I recall my first 360 Screenings adventure. I was told to bring a penny and ‘90s attire to The Burroughs on Bathurst and Queen St. in Toronto, Ontario. My mind was tangled in a web of mysteries, as I navigated all the memories of my moviegoing past but couldn’t put my finger on a penny and ‘90s clothes (I wore a henley). I arrived and – boom – I was exposed to this enormous set including a potter, fortune teller, and a subway-dwelling miscreant. What a motley. (continue reading…)
The Demonstrator: Theatre Review

The Demonstrator “started” before The Demonstrator had started. The three actors staggered onto the stage a few minutes before the alleged start time, and some were not too happy to see the audience. Confused, timid, and bothered they were. Why was an audience here and what had they done with actuality? So was my first observation in Waterfowl Producktions’ The Demonstrator, a metatheatrical play bursting with anxiety and the ink of a quick-creative pen. It’s a play that dances so close to absurdity but never becomes “absurdist.” Indeed it is about suspending reality, but that is not necessarily saying the same thing. (continue reading…)
